British Shorthair with Pointed or Color Point Coat
This article explores the pointed or color point pigmentation pattern seen in some British Shorthair cats.
Albino Gene
The albino gene C affects pigmentation through the enzyme tyrosinase. It has five alleles:
- C: normal tyrosinase.
- cs: "Siamese" pointed.
- cb: "Burmese" sepia.
- ca: blue-eyed albino.
- c: total albino.

Genetics and Pigmentation
The cs and cb alleles are heat-sensitive. Pigment forms only in cooler areas (ears, paws, tail, face), giving the pointed pattern.
